"WE ARE ALL ONE HUMANITY" 2009 ANTI-STIGMA CAMPAIGN
|
The Anti-Stigma 2009 T-Shirt printed for LIVE CONSORTIUM'S first University Anti-Stigma Campaign in 2009 as well as for the 2009 AIDS Walk Houston was designed to communicate a strong message that “We are all one Humanity”. No matter whom you are or who you encounter, we all are stigmatized. Many times an individual is stigmatized by the very essence or quality that makes them unique and brings joy to others around them. Other times people are stigmatized by social or health issues. In every case, LIVE CNSORTIUM'S Anti-Stigma 2009 T-Shirt, “We are all one Humanity”, is designed to break the fashion stigma of what you wear, fight all major stigmas, and unite our diverse community in the unified fight against HIV because we all live in a World in which everyone is affected by HIV.
“We are all one Humanity”, the concept behind our Anti-Stigma 2009 T-Shirt, is symbolic of how stigma affects every individual, many times silently and without the understanding or realization of the negative effects of stigma by other people, even family and friends.
Stigma invades every human label. It impacts men and woman, tall and short, fat and skinny, straight and gay, black, white and Hispanic, and people of every culture, demographic, religious belief, and socioeconomic status.
Eroding the core of our common humanity, stigma wears away an individual’s identity, value, and self worth. Its power lies in our inaction. HIV works the same way.
Through understanding, compassion, discussion, and breaking social stigma we will all move closer to a world in which both viruses, the virus of social stigma and the virus identified as HIV, can be, and one day will be, eradicated.
As people, we have a shared interest for economic, political, and spiritual reasons to eliminate barriers that prevent us from living full and vital lives.
I also love this quote from Bishop Desmond Tutu - "he ultimate blasphemy is to convince a child of god that h/she is not a child of god."

The design concept “We are all one Humanity” illustrates the common threads of humanity and removes the major classes of stigmas associated with each.
